Eyman's Light Rail Initiative is Off-track

This year, Tim Eyman has filed the joke initiative!

Though nobody's laughing.

A 25% cut in local property taxes. That's one quarter of our parks, libraries and firefighters, plus huge cuts in law enforcement, road construction and other essential services.

And for what? An across-the-board tax cut that could end up costing the owner of a $100,000 home as much in increased insurance premiums as he saves in taxes, while the owner of a $1 million home walks away with a $1500 windfall.

Washington needs tax reform, but not Tim's way, where the wealthy get all the breaks and working families suffer the consequences.

That's why we're working with legislators to enact a $30,000 Property Tax Homestead Exemption.

Our proposal targets relief towards low and middle income homeowners, whereas Tim's largely benefits the wealthy. Our proposal maintains revenues at current levels and limits, whereas Tim's guts local services like fire, EMS, parks, libraries and law enforcement. And our proposal takes a small step towards tax fairness, whereas Tim's takes a leap in the wrong direction.

Real tax reform. It may not be as fun as calling Tim a horse's ass... but he'll find it a lot more irritating.
